Jose Flores

Ranch Manager

For Jose Flores (he/him/his), ranching is not just a career—it’s a way of life passed down through generations. Born in Corralejo de Hidalgo, Pénjamo Guanajuato, Mexico, Jose grew up immersed in the traditions of farming, livestock care, and community stewardship. His journey began early: he took his first solo horseback ride at age two and was tending cattle by age five, cultivating the deep connection to land and animals that defines his work today.

At 17, Jose moved to the Rogue Valley, where his exceptional skills and tireless work ethic quickly earned him recognition in Southern Oregon’s ranching community. By the time Chiron Center assumed the lease of Arrowhead Ranch in 2017, Jose had already become an integral part of the property’s success. His expertise extended far beyond the responsibilities of a ranch hand, and as Ranch Manager, he now oversees all 520 acres, leading a skilled team and ensuring the seamless care of animals, irrigation, fencing, equipment, and land.

Jose’s attentiveness is extraordinary. Whether caring for an injured animal, adjusting a horse’s workload to suit its needs, or monitoring wildlife patterns to enhance the Ranch’s ecosystem, his deep connection to the land ensures everything flourishes under his care. From managing seasonal irrigation to fostering harmony among the animals, Jose’s proactive approach creates an environment where nature and operations thrive in balance. His unwavering dedication and expertise are truly the heartbeat of The Ranch.

In 2020, Jose and his family faced profound loss when the Almeda Fire destroyed their home and belongings. This tragedy deepened their connection to the Ranch, as Jose, his wife, and their children moved on-site. Today, the Ranch is both workplace and home, blending Jose’s ranching heritage with the modern lives of his children, who balance tending animals and growing vegetables with attending the local bilingual public school. Their lives embody a harmonious fusion of ancient traditions and modern innovations, seamlessly bridging the wisdom of the past with the opportunities of the present.

Jose’s leadership and unwavering dedication are at the heart of The Ranch’s success. His ability to blend tradition with modern practices ensures the Ranch remains a sanctuary of healing, renewal, and connection to the natural world. Through his tireless commitment, The Ranch stands as a testament to resilience, stewardship, and community.
