Gina Medina’s life is a testament to the strength, compassion, and resilience required to support the loved ones of public safety professionals. With over three decades of experience as a Family Support Peer, Gina has walked alongside families and spouses through the unique highs and lows of public safety life. Her insights are deeply personal, shaped by her family’s own legacy of service—including her husband Claudio’s 28-year career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and their son’s decision to follow in his footsteps.
Gina’s expertise extends far beyond the everyday challenges faced by public safety families. She has provided critical care after line-of-duty deaths, debilitating injuries, and the unseen wounds of chronic trauma exposure. From missed holidays and milestones to the profound loss felt by grieving families, Gina navigates these realities with grace, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to healing. Her role in Incident Management Teams during national tragedies, including the 5-fatality Esperanza Fire and the 19-fatality Yarnell Hill Fire, underscores her exceptional ability to offer care and guidance in the most difficult circumstances.

As CTRN’s Family & Loved Ones Peer Support Director, she provides a listening ear, practical advice, and heartfelt care, serving as a cornerstone of the organization’s mission.
